Truck Racing

Many may not be familiar with truck racing. According to www.wikipedia.com, truck racing is a form of motor racing which involves modified versions of heavy tractor units on racing circuits. This motor sport started in Europe in the early 70s and has become increasingly popular since then. However, it’s popularity has declined in the 90s when more popular motor sports like Formula 1 came to light.

Although it’s popularity has dropped, there are still many countries who still have truck racing sports like Britain, Brazil and other Europe countries. Although many may find truck racing exciting and exhilarating, there are however, sporting regulations that these truck drivers have to comply with. These sporting regulations are supervised by the Federation International Automobile (FIA) association.

This is to ensure that safety also comes first in truck racing sports because it involves heavy vehicles. Many racing sports are often racing in high speeds, this is not the case for truck racing. Truck racing speed is only limited to 160km/h which is about 100mph. This is to ensure the safety of all drivers involved in the sport. There is also a weight limit for the truck that are up for races, the minimum weight of all trucks are approximately 5500kg which makes them super trucks in the races.

A tyipical truck race usually takes around 8 to 12 laps at least. However, this may vary according to different countries. Truck racing is a dangerous sport, because of the space in between each truck on the race tracks, minor collisions are unavoidable sometimes. However, driver’s physical injuries are quite rare in truck racing events if all comply with the the sporting regulations which is usually the case.

Unlike drag racing, all truck racing drivers have to have a race licence that is issued by Motor Sports Association. This is to ensure that all truck drivers are experienced drivers to avoid much casualties or dangers as possible because these are heavy vehicles that they are driving. If you want to be involve in truck racing, here are a few tips that you can use as guidelines to help you.

Join a race team to gain more on track experience. See how truck racing really works rather than gaining your experience through televisions and websites. Nothing beats the real thing! Be sure to have some skills that could be useful to the team and many of them often accept new members to the team if you are of some help to them. Once you have done this and is also over 21 years old, you can now join truck racing associations like British Truck Racing Association (BTRA) and try to get your truck racing licence.

It may not be as hard as you think to get a truck racing licence. Just take their test and comply with their rules and regulations. If you have passed all stages, just pay the necessary fees and get yourself started in this motor racing industry. Get your own truck and start racing!
